About Voice over Internet Protocol


Voice-over-Internet Protocol (VoIP) is a protocol that enables transmission of speech real-time over the internet or other IP packet-switched networks. VoIP converts the voice signal from a telephone into a digital signal that travels over the IP Network, then converts it back at the other end.

Now widely accepted, VoIP technology is being rapidly deployed and is now a core part of all new telephone systems.

The technology is continually being extended to integrate with the new Web 2.0 Internet that exists today.

What we do


VoIP.co.uk is a telephony service provider providing Voice-Over-IP trunks into businesses. This service is commonly called ‘SIP Trunking’. We are based in the UK and have customers situated worldwide, many using the Internet to reach our platform servers, although we also offer dedicated connections for the best service levels.

We have a very strong technical team of engineers and software developers and we have a particular interest in voice security. Our flagship service is called SIP-Encrypt and this provides an anti-eavesdrop solution for all businesses concerned about sensitive information being transmitted using VoIP technology. An example of our SIP Encrypt service in use, is where a business is taking card payments from customers over the telephone and recognising that the call contains sensitive data must ensure that this is immune to interception and card data loss. Our SIP Encrypt service works by deploying a gateway device at the customer site that protects the PBX system by encrypting all call traffic between the system and VoIP’s network. The gateway device is an encrypting SIP Session Border Controller we call our SAFEGateway and the device has been professionally penetration tested in the same way as our secure platform for complete piece of mind. Our SAFEGateway is provided free of charge to our customers as part of our SIP Encrypt service.

The Bottom Line

VoIP technology has now matured to offer comparable if not more dependability than traditional ISDN-type services. This, combined with low lifetime cost and fast ROI, is presenting decision makers with an overwhelmingly compelling business case.

Adam Crisp, Managing Director

AdamCrispAdam Crisp is Managing Director and the Senior Consultant Engineer at VoIP.co.uk. Adam is also our Group CTO. Adam graduated in Electronic Engineering from the University of Southampton in 1994 and quickly accumulated broad experience in IT, working in technology companies including BT, GTS-Ventelo, Nortel Networks, British Rail, and Cable & Wireless. In 2003 he was awarded the prestigious Cisco Certified Internetworking Engineer (CCIE) certification, the industry’s most respected IT certification.

In 2004 he co-founded VoIP.co.uk with business partner Jean-Pierre Vandromme to engage the growing demand for next generation IP-based communication systems. Subsequently he and his team have demonstrated pioneering ability in development and innovation in data networks, and a number of their network integration and optimisation solutions have become industry standards. Adam’s consultancy commissions in the financial services and telecoms industries have brought further success.

The culmination of the development initiatives from the team has been the company’s ability to offer clients possibly the most stable VoIP platform available.

Adam has a clear vision of coming trends and demands in the IP telephony world, and is even now planning the future solutions that will assure strong prospects for VoIP.co.uk.

Christopher Harding, Channel Director

ChristopherHardingChris is our Channel Director and has headed up Customer care since we formed the Company in 2004.

Chris comes from a multi-skilled technical background and after completing his Msc in toxicology, qualified as an MCSE. He went into IT and very quickly progressed to the position of IT Manager.

Chris’ s strong technical understanding coupled with his innate interpersonal skills meant that from day one he was instrumental is driving our customer care policy.

Chris is committed to ensuring that our partners receive the very best pre and post sales support and it is testament to his professional yet approachable manner that we have so many loyal customers and partners today.

On a personal note Chris has quite a collection of cars and is often responsible for the VoIP.co.uk team eating too many doughnuts on a Friday afternoon!

Sue Steele, Service Delivery Manager

SueSteeleSue Steele joined VoIP.co.uk in January 2015 as Service Delivery Manager and is committed to ensuring that our customer service is second to none. Sue has worked for a number of different industries, but always in technical teams with a focus on support and customer service.

For the last 11 years Sue has been running the offices of computer consultancies and telecommunications suppliers.

Sue is married and has two children, aged 17 and 20. When not ferrying her children around she enjoys going to the gym, running and cycling and has taken part in a number of events, raising money for various charities.

Jean-Pierre Vandromme, Chairman

Jean-PierreVandrommeJean-Pierre Vandromme is Company Chairman and has over 25 years‘ experience in the Telecom industry, including senior executive and board positions at Vimpelcom (Russia Country MD), Golden Telecom (CEO), Ventelo Europe (CEO) and Completel.

He became CEO of Golden Telecom in September 2005. Between 2005 and December 2007 he built the second largest fibre-to-home network in the world, executing and integrating 35 acquisitions valued at US$290.2m and growing the company to be the largest independent Russian and Eastern Europe fixed line operator. Between 2005 and 2007 the market cap increased from US$800m to US$4.3bn. He negotiated the sale of the company to Vimpelcom in Q1 2008, delivering a US$3.5bn cash return to investors in just over two years.

Prior to joining Golden Telecom, Jean-Pierre was the Managing Partner of VSRK, a leading independent consultancy firm advising Advent, Goldman Sachs, Deutsche and JP Morgan on their telecoms investments.

Jean-Pierre began his career at Belgacom, rising to be advisor to two successive Ministers of Telecommunications.

Carlos Riera, Head of M&A

CarlosRieraCarlos is head of our M&A team, Carlos has in excess of 20 years of experience of top level financial and executive management of Technology, Media and Telecommunication companies.

Carlos was appointed as interim CEO for the Swedish publicly listed telecoms group, with the responsibility of turning around the business and to find suitable M&A opportunities in Scandinavia. He spun off the residential part of the business and merged with an industry player in one of the largest deals in Sweden for the year.

Previously, in 2008 he joined the Kuwaiti investment firm Al Madina for Finance and Investments as Head of their International Telecoms Portfolio, having completed deals in Brazil, Spain, China, Czech Republic, Chile, Malaysia, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.

From 2004 until 2007 he was Group CEO and board member of Kalaam Telecom Holding BSc, Bahrain, the largest alternative telecoms player in Bahrain. In his capacity, he was a leading player in the deregulation of the telecommunications market in Bahrain, advising the Telecoms Regulatory Authority on several issues. He was board member the Bahrain Operators Forum and the Bahrain Internet Exchange.

Prior to Kalaam Telecom Holdings, Carlos was Group CEO and board member of Metrored Telecommunications Group Plc, Executive Vice-President and Managing Director of Global Telesystems Group and Group Financial Controller for Esprit Telecom Group (UK).

Carlos started his career in Ernst and Young both in their Barcelona and London offices. He holds a BSc and MSc in Economics from the University of Barcelona (Spain) and completed a Corporate Finance program in 1998 from London Business School.
